The World Poker Open tournament series began on October 16th and will conclude on October 28th. An interstate now connects Tunica with the city and provides fast access to Las Vegas-style gambling. Arguably the most recognizable building in the state, the casino towered above the flat terrain just south of Memphis, Tennessee.

The casino just underwent a full renovation of every room in its 31 story tower and 50 suites were added in order to make the Gold Strike the premier gambling destination on the Mississippi River.įor the first six seasons of the World Poker Tour, the Gold Strike was a regular stop. The Main Event is a $5,150 buy-in tournament that starts on Sunday, October 26th.

I recommend getting yourself a host, checking in the VIP check in located just behind the valet parking office asking for an upgrade to at least a jr.suite getting a VIP key for the bar and VIP room located behind the high dollar slot area and getting a reservation in the steak house.
Incredable food and the service is 5 star. However, the Chicago Steak House gets my highest ratings for service and food. They also lack an upscale coffee shop such as Starbucks which Horseshoe has. I think the buffet is not as good as the Horseshoe, which is next door but it is a good value, especially the friday night seafood buffet. The regular suites are all two rooms with king beds and ample living areas in a seperate room. The rooms have been upgraded with great flat screen tv's and the jr. Some of the personnel have been there through out all the changes. During all this time, the Gold Strike has maintained at least a 4 star rating for us. We have seen ownership and management changes as well as tons of personnel. WE have been traveling to the Gold Strike Casino and Hotel since it opened.
The buffet at the hotel is very large and the food was good, although a bit pricey on Friday night (seafood night.$22+tax+tip+drink.better be hungry:) Overll, a great hotel and I would highly recommend it.

There is plenty of free parking, although valet is available as well.not sure if there is a fee. There is also a large workout room with TVs. It is open til 11PM, which is nice.does not close ridiculously early like some casino resort pools do. The pool area is very nice and includes an indoor pool with two very large hot tubs in a cave-like theme with rock walls, etc. The staff of both the casino and hotel are friendly and helpful. But, this one is nice too and there is a wide array of game options. I will say that I still personally prefer Hollywood as the best 's just a more fun atmosphere in my opinion. Just step on the elevator from your room floor and when you get to the lobby, you are at the casino. The casino is just off of the lobby, so there are no long hikes. The lobby is beautiful with marble floors.very Vegas-like. Elevators are fast.never had to wait more than a few seconds. All hallways and common areas are spotless. The rooms are very clean and appear recently updated with granite in bathrooms, flat screen TV's on the wall, etc. The hotel is a 32-story tower and from the upper floors there is a river view (if facing that direction). But, otherwise none of the hotels match the quality of Gold Strike. I have not stayed at Horseshoe, which might be comparable. Stayed here for one night recently and having stayed in several Tunica hotels, I must say that hotel-wise this is the nicest so far.
